Getting started with Reverse Planning – Workshop

The Getting Started Workshop for Reverse Planning helps you outline your planning goals and understand how Reverse Planning can simplify and improve planning processes in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

We guide you through the core concepts, enabling you to continue working independently with a clearer, more actionable planning foundation.

Reverse Planning is designed to make planning more intuitive and realistic by showing you which items will fall below safety stock, which deliveries are at risk, and what actions to take next. When used correctly, it provides a more flexible and user‑friendly alternative to traditional MRP and adds immediate value to both planners and operations.

In this workshop we will guide you through choosing your primary planning focus, interpreting planning suggestions, and understanding how Reverse Planning helps you react faster and plan smarter.

Workshop Deliverables

After this workshop you will have

  • A solid understanding of how Reverse Planning identifies critical items based on all known supplies and demands.
  • Insight into the four core purposes of Reverse Planning:
Simple MRP Planning, Move Demand Dates, Identify Overstock Inventory, and Direct Replenishment.
  • A clear overview of how Reverse Planning simplifies planning work and highlights items falling below safety stock within lead time.
  • Practical experience reviewing suggested planning actions and understanding how they help prevent stockouts and delivery delays.
  • A business‑oriented evaluation of how Reverse Planning can reduce planning time and increase productivity across your planning team.

What we cover during the workshop

Understand Your Planning Approach: We explore how Reverse Planning shifts planning from theoretical MRP logic to practical, real‑world visibility — helping you plan based on what is actually possible.

Simple MRP Planning: A user‑friendly version of MRP that identifies items falling below safety stock and recommends replenishment actions, focusing your attention on the most critical items.

Move Demand Dates: Learn how Reverse Planning helps you adjust delivery commitments when supplies or production cannot meet original demand dates, offering realistic planning alternatives.

Identify Overstock Inventory: See how to quickly identify excess stock or items nearing expiration — helping you reduce stock levels and free up working capital.

Direct Replenishment: Understand how to instantly replenish items in a specific location (e.g., service vans or secondary warehouses) when minimum thresholds are reached.

Critical Items & Suggested Actions: We show you how Reverse Planning visualizes items that cannot meet lead‑time requirements, and how the app suggests prioritized actions to resolve those issues.

Important Note

Due to the 3‑hour duration, this workshop focuses on illustrating concepts, reviewing key features, and building a small proof‑of‑concept. It does not include full planning configuration or setup of all templates and planning rules.
