With Abakion 365, you can migrate to Dynamics NAV 2018 or Dynamics 365 Business Central in one working week

We’ll do the job in just five working days – including workshops and training.

If you are coming from an earlier NAV, the downtime is actually as little as one day, but you can certainly choose Abakion 365 even if you are coming from another ERP system.

With Abakion 365, we use what we call a proper migration, where we don’t just carry old flaws over to the new version. This type of project is not comparable with sending your NAV to an upgrade factory abroad.

The idea is not to cut corners, but to organize the work so well that it can be done in a week.

And we do it for a fixed price.

The result of the project is a Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2018 in the cloud, or a Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

The solution includes apps enabling most special customizations to be avoided, so another result is change readiness.

You take out a single subscription covering the Dynamics solution and the apps. This is called Abakion 365.

Migration to Dynamics NAV in 5 days

Punkt 1

Compatibility assessment

The first step is a conversation in which we go through your particular requirements and the main sets of customizations you have in your old solution. This lets us determine in advance whether you are suitable for rapid migration.

It matters to us that you know what you are taking on, and that we are both sure that your company is compatible with the concept.

We have standardized the questions and issues to be clarified that make up the agenda for the meeting. This way, you can come prepared if there is anything particular that we need to talk about when we meet.

Punkt 2

The working week

Once we have agreed that the project is to go ahead, we book out a week in the calendar. This is the week when it all happens.

There will be two consultants at your company throughout the working week. They will spend the whole week working exclusively on your project. You will have their undivided attention.

One consultant is responsible for workshops and training, and will sort out any business-related issues with you.

The other consultant is responsible for migrating data from your old solution. We migrate data intelligently, we use a best-practice setup in the new solution, and we validate the data in the new solution. This means that all data are correctly mapped and the new solution contains cleansed data.

Solution-wise, we replace all customizations in the old solution with apps in the new solution. This is feasible for the vast majority of companies today. Not being locked in to old customizations gives you change readiness. From now on, you can carry out version upgrades without having to implement a migration project.

We round off the Friday by deploying the solution, and then it is ready for your staff to come in to work on Monday morning.

Punkt 3

For all of the following week, we will have a support consultant on site at your company.

The support consultant ensures that your staff get to grips with the new solution, and helping you is this person’s only job for the whole week.

Five-day migration is not…

A quick word about what this project is not. Specifically, it is not just a simple version upgrade.

As an alternative to Abakion 365, you can by all means have your NAV upgraded cheaply and quickly. We can send your old NAV solution to an upgrade factory abroad, and they will quickly transfer it all to a new version – but they will not change anything other than the NAV version.

  • Your customizations will remain lumped in with the solution, and old flaws will not be tidied up and weeded out. The customizations may be unnecessary in the new version. They may cause errors.
  • Your data, too, will remain in the solution, and this too can mean a risk of errors if the new version entails changes to the data structure or functionality.

It is a really easy method, but it also has its disadvantages. You have to send your solution to the upgrade factory every time you want to move up to a new version, and the time will come when the changes are so major that you have to undertake a full migration project.

Who is it right for?

Five-day migration is not for the biggest companies. You have to understand that it also makes demands on you as the customer. You must be capable of carrying out the project in a week.

Then again, this procedure is highly relevant to a great many smaller companies.

A rapid migration project is just right for you if you can see yourself in the following five criteria:

  1. You must be prepared to implement your ERP solution in Microsoft’s cloud environment, and subscribe to the ERP solution – instead of buying a licence.
  2. You must be able to see the advantage of using standard apps that give you change readiness – instead of special customizations developed only for you.
  3. Your functional requirements, too, must be ones that can be met using standard apps. This is the case for the vast majority of smaller companies, but you must be prepared to use alternative solutions if standard apps cannot cover all your processes.
  4. You must see the advantage of using a best-practice setup and account plan, saving hundreds of hours of setup work.
  5. Your organization must be ready to carry out everything within one week. All participants must be briefed and empowered to take decisions. If every decision calls for workshops and approval processes, then it goes without saying that we will run out of time.

Those NAV apps that everyone’s talking about…

When I talk to companies about migrating to Dynamics NAV in five days, there is one question that often comes up:

‘What are these apps that make customizations obsolete?’

In the old days, we called them ‘extension modules’, and nowadays they are generally called ‘add-ons’ or ‘apps’. So, the short answer is that the two apps ‘Master Data Information’ and ‘Dynamic Reports’ eliminate the need for most customizations.
The majority of Abakion’s customers have used these apps for years, simply because they replace many customizations. This is why I have apps on my mind all the time.

The more detailed answer begins elsewhere:

When introducing a new ERP solution, most companies concentrate on ensuring their business processes are supported.

The solution must be able to do everything the company needs.

The trouble is that the way this functionality is delivered is incredibly important, and this is something very few people pay attention to when they implement an ERP system.

Basically, your supplier can deliver functionality in the following ways:

  • Microsoft standard:the function is part of the basic solution from Microsoft that Microsoft is committed to maintaining and developing on an ongoing basis.
  • Microsoft partner standard:the function is part of an app provided by a Microsoft partner who is committed to maintaining and developing the app.
  • Setup:the business process can be supported by setting up parameters in the solution. Hence, the code is not changed; changes are made only to data. For example, this may be an approval procedure, an invoice layout, an extra language etc.
  • Customizations:the customization is supported via changes or additions to the code. This is often a quick method, but it means that all the above-mentioned methods are no longer standard.

The consequence of choosing customizations is that you lose change readiness. You can no longer simply upgrade or add new apps, because there is a risk of the customizations causing conflicts. Many companies feel locked in by their old customizations. You should have your new Dynamics solution delivered by the green methods only. This is certainly feasible.

In the Abakion 365 concept, we use apps that we at Abakion are committed to servicing and developing.

This preserves your change readiness and means that you will never have to go through a migration project again, because from now on upgrades will be simple updates to the solutions from Microsoft and Microsoft partners.
